Sightings of Missing Malaysian Airlines Jet over Maldives 'Not True'

Investigators hunting for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 have discounted reports the plane may have been spotted over the Maldives, an official said Wednesday.
Malaysia's Acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the sightings had been investigated by police in the Maldives and were determined to be untrue.Several residents of Kudahuvadhoo, one of the more remote atolls in the Indian Ocean island chain nation, had reported seeing a low-flying aircraft on the morning of March 8, when the Boeing 777 disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
“The Malaysian chief of the defense force has contacted his counterpart in the Maldives, who has confirmed that these reports are not true,” Hishammuddin said.
The Associated Press contributed to his report.
